Executive Function (EF) coaching is a type of support that helps children, young adults, and adults improve their ability to plan, prioritize, and organize their daily tasks while being emotionally regulated and attentive. It also helps with skills such as time management, goal setting, and decision making. The goal of executive function coaching is to equip individuals with the tools they need to achieve success in their personal, educational, and professional lives. EF coaches work one-on-one with clients to assess their strengths and weaknesses, and to develop customized strategies to help them overcome any challenges they may be facing. The coaching process often involves setting goals, building accountability, and providing feedback and guidance to help clients stay on track. With the right support and guidance, individuals can make lasting improvements to their executive function skills and achieve greater success in all areas of their lives. Since there is no "cookie cutter" approach to this process, as each person has different issues, a plan is developed after the initial session.
This session is a consultation aimed at addressing the mental health, educational and/or wellness needs of your child. During this session, we will discuss the educational, behavioral, emotional, social, and academic needs of your child to develop a customized "next step" in the plan to help your child overcome any challenges they may be facing. This type of appointment is beneficial if you are trying to figure out if you need neuropsychological testing, psychiatry, therapy, occupational therapy, sessions with learning or reading specialist, parent advocacy, a special school placement, or executive function coaching.
A school observation is a method used to assess a child's ability to function in their educational setting. During this observation, an executive function coach/ special education teacher will spend time observing the child in their school taking note of their behaviors, social interactions, emotional control, attention/concentration, academic ability, participation, work completion and other executive functions. The goal of this observation is to identify any areas of difficulty for the child, and to develop strategies to help improve their functioning in their school setting. This information can be used to support the child in their academic and personal success, and to create a customized treatment plan for them.
